The Most Dangerous Story You Must Never Have to Tell

Imagine this: An elderly man sits on his porch, staring into the distance. His grandson, full of curiosity, asks, "Grandpa, what’s your biggest regret?"

The old man sighs deeply, his eyes clouded with memories. "I had a chance to start my own company once," he says, "but I was too scared to fail. I thought I had time. Now, all I do is wonder what could have been."

At that moment, the boy sees something in his grandfather’s eyes—not just regret, but the weight of a story that can never be rewritten.

Regret is a part of life; no one escapes it. But not all regrets are equal. Some regrets push us to do better, to try again, to rebuild. But the most painful kind? The regret of opportunities lost forever—the ones that time will never give back.

This is the most dangerous story to tell. And you must do everything in your power to avoid telling it.

Why Is This Story Dangerous?

The danger isn’t just in having regrets. It’s in realizing them too late—when nothing can be done to change the outcome.

Take, for example, a man who always dreamed of joining the military. It was his passion, but he hesitated, made excuses, and let time pass. Now, at 70, he reflects on his unfulfilled dream, but no military camp will accept him. The chance is gone forever.

Or consider the young girl who showed immense talent in gymnastics. Her parents, prioritizing academics, never allowed her to receive professional training. By the time she was old enough to decide for herself, her body was no longer flexible enough for elite gymnastics. The world of professional sports had moved on, and the opportunity was lost.

The most painful stories in life aren’t just about failure—they are about what could have been but never was.

The Reality of Missed Timing

Life is filled with opportunities, but not all opportunities come twice.

Even Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us:

"There is a time to plant and a time to harvest."

If you fail to plant when the season is right, you cannot expect to reap when harvest time comes. Even if, by God’s mercy, you manage to gather a harvest later, it will require extra effort, and greater energy.

Why wait until the road is difficult when you can act at the right time?

The Dangers of This Storyline

1. It places you in a position where you can do nothing about it, making it a permanent mark of failure.

2. It highlights a wasted opportunities, lack of focus, or preparedness in your earlier years.

3. It becomes a lesson for others rather than an inspiration.

4. It’s a story you will carry for the rest of your life.

What Should You Do?

"Make hay while the sun shines—that’s smart; go fishing during harvest—that’s stupid."

— Proverbs 10:5 (MSG)

Seize the opportunity when the time is right. This doesn’t mean you should rush into every decision blindly, but it does mean you must be discerning enough to recognize your moment. And once you do—act.

When the opportunity is right, and the timing is right, do not hesitate. Do not allow fear, doubt, or distractions to steal what is meant for you.

What This Calls For:

1. A heightened level of discernment – The ability to recognize when an opportunity is truly yours.

2. Deep focus and determination – The willingness to act despite uncertainty.

3. Diligence in preparation – Getting ready before the opportunity arrives..

4. A courageous mindset – The ability to take risks when necessary.

Choose the Story You Will Tell

One day, you will look back on your life. The question is:

Will your story be one of courage, risk, and bold steps? Or will it be a story of “what could have been” but never was?

Right now, there is an opportunity in front of you—one you might not even realize yet. Will you take it, or will you let time steal it away?

Choose wisely. Your future self will thank you.
