What If Love Is the Power You’ve Been Praying For? | A Revelation on the Depth of Love

There’s a song that’s been echoing in my heart lately—“Oh to Love You” by Dunsin Oyekan. The first verse goes:

"I went to the Father

I said I need more power

I need more of Your fire

And He said to me, what you need is more love."

Let that sink in.

I believe this wasn’t just a song; it was revelation. And as I meditated on it, the Holy Spirit drew me to a familiar scripture that suddenly became a key:

“And I pray that Christ will make His home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love, so that you, together with all God's people, may have the power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, is Christ's love. Yes, may you come to know His love—although it can never be fully known—and so be completely filled with the very nature of God.”

— Ephesians 3:17-19 GNTD

The first time I studied this scripture, I found a key. A key to uncovering more of God and experiencing rapid spiritual growth—not through striving, but through love. It all starts with one thing: being rooted in love.

The Foundation of Our Faith Is Love

The foundation of your Christian life—your relationship with God, yourself, and others—must be love. Without love, even the greatest of spiritual gifts or sacrifices amount to nothing.

“I may have all the faith needed to move mountains—but if I have no love, I am nothing.”

— 1 Corinthians 13:2 GNTD

We often read 1 Corinthians 13 with a checklist mindset: “This is how I should treat people or how people should treat me.” But what if we shifted that lens? What if love isn’t just what we do, but who we become?

Love isn’t just an action. Love is a personality to embody. And more than that—Love is God.

“God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

The Secret to Power in Christ

Now, here’s the mystery. Once your life is deeply rooted in love—the kind described in 1 Corinthians 13—you receive power.

What kind of power?

The power to understand.

“...that you may have the power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, is Christ’s love.”

This understanding isn’t gained through head knowledge. It’s not logical—it’s spiritual. God gives you power to grasp the weight of Christ’s love, but only when you first embody that love.

You’ve probably heard the saying: “You won’t know where the shoe hurts until you wear it.” In the same way, you won’t understand the depth of Jesus’ love until you begin to walk in that love yourself. When you choose to love—selflessly, sacrificially, persistently—you start to taste what it feels like to be Him.

Why Understanding Christ’s Love Matters

So, why is understanding Christ’s love so important?

Because it is the only way to be “completely filled with the very nature of God.” (Ephesians 3:19)

We often pray, “Lord, I want to be more like You.” But the truth is—you can only reflect the degree of God’s nature that your love walk can carry.

The depth of your love reveals the depth of your Christ-likeness.

The Overflow of Love: Supernatural Power

Now here’s the part that gets spicy.

We love quoting Ephesians 3:20:

“To Him who by means of His power working in us is able to do so much more than we can ever ask for, or even think of.”

But did you realize this verse is a continuation of the love conversation?

The power working in us isn’t some random force—it’s the result of the love we’ve allowed to take root in us. It’s the overflow of Christ’s presence, deeply planted in a heart where love has become the foundation.

So yes, God can do exceedingly above all you ask or imagine—but only to the extent that His love is active and alive within you.

So How Do You Get Rooted in Love?

It starts where Ephesians 3:17 begins:

“I pray that Christ will make His home in your hearts through faith…”

Let Him in. Let Jesus be more than a Sunday visit—let Him take residence in your heart. Let Him transform your desires, purify your intentions, and ground your identity in love.

Then, you will begin to love differently. Live differently. Walk differently. And most importantly—you’ll grow into the full measure of God’s nature.

Final Thoughts

So maybe what you really need isn’t “more fire” or “more power.”

Maybe what you need… is more love.

Because in God’s kingdom, love is the fire. Love is the power.

And when you walk in it, you’ll carry more of Him than you ever thought possible.
