You Want God to Use You—But Is He Even Lord of You?
During my quiet time this morning while worshiping God, a thought dropped in my heart—something I had never considered before, yet it opened my eyes so clearly.
So often we say, “Lord, lift me so I can tell the world you are the Lifter.”
“Heal through me so the world will know you are the Healer.”
Our desire sounds noble—after all, we want to be witnesses, right? We want to tell the word that everything said about God is True. But sometimes, even when it's sincere, it borders on spiritual blackmail.
“Use me to show the world who you are… but start with a miracle.”
But here’s the question the Holy Spirit whispered to me:
How about showing the world that He is Lord? That He is your King and Maker?
Let’s start from the basics. To portray the Lordship and Kingship of Christ doesn’t require extra power, signs, or wonders. It simply requires surrender. A yielded life.
Let’s be honest. Many of us are praying for God to move through us in extraordinary ways and show his power, yet our daily lives haven’t even begun to reflect the basics of who God is.
The people closest to you haven’t seen you refuse something simply because “the Bible says so.” They haven’t seen you pause to consult God when making decisions. They haven’t seen you lay down your own desires to obey God's will.
If you're passionate about revealing that God's names are true—Healer, Deliverer, Provider—start with the first one: Lord.
- The one that demands your heart.
- The one that calls for your choices.
- The one that doesn’t need a platform, just a submitted life.
Be the person whose life says, “He rules me.”
In church, my pastor recently said:
“If you’re faithful with little, you’ll be entrusted with more.”
So why should God trust you to demonstrate His power, if you haven’t been faithful in showing His Lordship in your day-to-day life? Lordship is within your current ability. It requires no spotlight—just obedience.
Let’s be real with our requests. God is not impressed by our ambitions to be seen as mighty vessels. He looks at the heart. He sees the posture. He knows when we want Him for display, and when we desire to truly know Him and make Him known. He wants you to be His witness, yes—but start with what you’ve already been given.
Reflection
Take a moment to examine your life. Before asking God to showcase His power through you, ask yourself:
- Does my daily life already reflect His Lordship?
- Would someone watching me—my choices, my reactions, my decisions—see that I have a King?
Be a faithful witness, not just of His power, but of His rule and Lordship.
